Whistler, B.C. – Tourism Whistler has officially launched a new video series, titled Whistler Changemakers, to shine a spotlight on Whistler businesses who are putting sustainability at the forefront of their operations.

Hosted by local pro skier and passionate environmentalist, Mike Douglas, the Whistler Changemakers video series explores a variety of topics, from emissions tracking, to supply chain best practices, to the ripple effect of sustainability education.

“Destination stewardship is a strategic priority for our organization, and we recognize exploring new ways to preserve and protect Whistler’s natural environment is incumbent upon us,” says Barrett Fisher, President & CEO of Tourism Whistler. “Our goal with the Whistler Changemakers video series is to inspire our local businesses to incorporate more sustainable practices into their operations, and to educate our guests on how they can make more sustainable choices while enjoying their time in Whistler.”

Lead by the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW), Big Moves Strategy outlines the destination’s plan to act on climate change, targeting a fifty per cent reduction of 2007 emission levels by 2030 en route to the resort’s long-term goal of net-zero emissions.

To achieve this target, Whistler is working collectively with residents, businesses and visitors to prioritize active transportation options, reduce visitor travel emissions, decarbonize passenger and commercial vehicles, reduce building emissions, and shift towards overall lower carbon consumption.

“We recognize that the tourism industry is inherently carbon-based,” adds Fisher. “That is why it is critical we all work together to find ways to reduce our impact on the planet so we can continue doing the things we love for many years to come.”

Over the next 12 months, Tourism Whistler will continue to share stories of local residents, businesses, and organizations who are doing their part to preserve the environment and contribute to the Whistler community in a sustainable way. This content creation is part of the organization's larger focus on the advancement of responsible, sustainable, and regenerative tourism.

“The Marketing team at Tourism Whistler is passionate about protecting Whistler’s natural environment, so this project is close to our hearts,” says Dee Raffo, Content Editor at Tourism Whistler. “We are excited to be telling the stories of local businesses who are prioritizing sustainability, and we look forward to bringing our visitors along on this journey with us.”
