   Whistler

Whistler, B.C. – Tourism Whistler held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) virtually on Thursday, May 6, 2021.

Three positions on the Tourism Whistler Board of Directors were up for election this year at the AGM; however, all three positions were elected by acclamation.

In the category of Single-Managed Lodging – Small, the successful nominee was Saad Hasan (incumbent), General Manager of Lodging Ovations.

In the category of Multi-Managed Lodging – Benchlands, the successful nominee was Steve Seatle (incumbent), Executive General Manager of Wyndham Vacation Rentals ResortQuest Whistler.

In the category of Commercial Director, the successful nominee was Roger Soane (incumbent), President & CEO of Whistler Sport Legacies.

“This has been an incredibly challenging year for Whistler, and for the entire tourism sector, and I would like to thank all of our Board members for their contributions and dedication in 2020,” said Ian Lowe, Chair of the Tourism Whistler Board of Directors. “We are fortunate that Tourism Whistler has a very experienced Board that reflects a breadth of resort experience to ensure all member interests are well-represented as we continue to navigate the impacts of COVID-19 and plan for business recovery.”

Tourism Whistler is governed by a 12-member Board of Directors, with seven elected Directors and five appointed.

On behalf of its members, the Board confirms the vision, mission, and strategic priorities for Tourism Whistler, contributes to and approves the annual business plan, approves annual operating and capital budgets, and ensures fulfillment of the organization’s mission and continued financial viability.

Tourism Whistler Board nominees do not have to be members of Tourism Whistler; however, they must be nominated by at least two members in good standing. All elected Directors serve a two-year term. The term served by the appointed Directors is determined by the organizations they represent.

Following the election of the Directors at the AGM, Tourism Whistler’s President & CEO, Barrett Fisher, gave a presentation where she provided an overview of Tourism Whistler’s response to COVID-19 and efforts in 2020.

“Throughout COVID-19, Tourism Whistler has worked hard to prioritize the health and safety of our community, while simultaneously supporting our members and local businesses,” said Fisher. “While COVID-19’s impact on travel has resulted in reductions in Tourism Whistler’s workforce, the remaining smaller team has been focused on working closely with our resort and industry partners to navigate this new tourism landscape, developing new experiences and new marketing campaigns targeting highest opportunity segments to accelerate Whistler’s recovery when the time for recreational travel resumes.”
