Three members of Tourism Whistler Board of Directors elected by acclamation at 2019 Annual General Meeting
Whistler, B.C. – Tourism Whistler held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, May 3 at the Whistler Conference Centre.
Three positions on the Tourism Whistler Board of Directors were up for election this year at the AGM; however, all three positions were elected by acclamation.
In the position of Single-Managed Hotel Lodging – Small, the successful nominee was Saad Hasan (incumbent), General Manager of Lodging Ovations.
In the position of Multi-Managed Lodging - Benchlands, the successful nominee was Steve Seatle (incumbent), Executive General Manager for ResortQuest Whistler.
In the position of Commercial Director, the successful nominee was Roger Soane (incumbent), President & CEO of Whistler Sport Legacies.
“I would like to sincerely thank all of our board members for their commitment and contributions,” said Norman Mastalir, Tourism Whistler’s Board Chair. “We are fortunate that the Tourism Whistler Board reflects a breadth of resort experience, ensuring the interests of a very diverse membership remain central to the organization, to the shared benefit of the entire resort.”
Tourism Whistler is governed by a 13-member Board of Directors – seven elected and six appointed.
On behalf of its Members, the Board confirms the vision, mission, strategic objectives, and priorities for Tourism Whistler, contributes to and approves the annual business plan, approves operating and capital budgets, and ensures the fulfillment of the organization’s mission and continued financial viability.
Tourism Whistler Board nominees do not have to be members of Tourism Whistler; however they must be nominated by at least two members in good standing. All elected directors serve a two-year term. The term served by the appointed directors is determined by the organizations they represent.

Following the election of the Directors at the AGM, Tourism Whistler’s President & CEO, Barrett Fisher, gave a presentation where she provided highlights from Tourism Whistler’s efforts in 2018 along with an overview of the organization’s strategic priorities and plans for 2019.
“Tourism Whistler has three overall priorities in 2019,” explained Fisher. “We are focused on growing midweek, which means focusing on our long-haul destination markets who stay five to ten nights and fill that midweek period. Our second priority is growing our shoulder season, and that means focusing on conference group business, leisure tour groups and shoulder season events that help to fill our spring and fall periods. And finally, we are committed to re-engaging the regional market by increasing our communication and value-ads, to ensure continued loyalty and support from our regional guests.”
