Whistler, B.C. – From the slopes to the track and the screen, guests to Whistler have much to celebrate this week as the resort is in full winter mode with both mountains open, fresh snow in the alpine and a calendar of film festival events and world cup competitions.

This week marks the 16th anniversary of the Whistler Film Festival, running November 30 – December 4 featuring 86 innovative and original films from around the world, a lineup of galas, parties, showcases and celebrations and a four-day Whistler industry summit with 30 interactive business sessions and networking events.

For some insights into the Whistler Film Festival lineup, read the Whistler Insider’s interview with screenwriter and director David I. Strasser, whose film RAW* will premiere at the festival. For more information and tickets, visit the events section on whistler.com.

And the fun doesn’t end in the theatre or on the slopes – following the IBSF North American Cup held in November, Whistler will welcome the BMW IBSF World Cup Bobsleigh and Skeleton events with the world’s best bobsleigh and skeleton athletes back at the Whistler Sliding Centre to kick off the 2016/ 17 world cup season. Nearly 200 athletes from 22 countries will compete for medals on the fastest track in the world.

For an inside look at the Whistler Sliding Centre’s bobsleigh and skeleton track, be sure to visit the open house on December 4. Organized by the BC Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association in partnership with the Whistler Sliding Centre, guests can enjoy bobsleigh and skeleton experiences. And, on December 9 and 10, the sliding centre hosts the Viessmann Luge World Cup and Viessmann Team Relay World Cup. The Sliding Centre will host a Luge open house on December 11. The first day of public bobsleigh and skeleton programs is December 12.

Tickets for sliding centre events can be purchased on the Whistler Sport Legacies website, at the track entrance ticket booth or at the Whistler Visitor Centre.
