Two Tourism Whistler board candidates acclaimed; two vie for remaining position

Whistler, B.C. -- While three Tourism Whistler board positions were up for election this year, members will cast ballots in only one of the categories.

This year, the board positions of Single-Managed Small Lodging Director, Commercial Director and Mulit-Managed Benchlands Lodging Director were all up for election.

In the category of Single-Managed Small Lodging Director, Saad Hasan (incumbent) was the single candidate and therefore, elected by acclamation.

In the category of Commercial Director, Roger Soane was elected by acclamation.

In the position of Multi-Managed Benchlands Lodging Director, there are two candidates: Sue Chappel (incumbent) and Bruce Okabe.

Tourism Whistler is governed by a 12-member Board of Directors – five appointed and seven elected. Elected director positions include Single-Managed Small Lodging, Single-Managed Large Lodging, Multi-Managed Benchlands Lodging, Multi-Managed Village Lodging, Multi-Managed Other Lodging, Director-At-Large and Commercial Director. Appointed director positions include two representatives from the Resort Municipality of Whistler, two representatives from Whistler Blackcomb and the President & CEO of Tourism Whistler.

Tourism Whistler Board nominees do not have to be members of Tourism Whistler; however they must be nominated by at least two members in good standing. All elected directors serve a two-year term. The term served by the appointed directors is determined by the organizations they represent.

Voting will be available online prior to the Annual General Meeting, or at the AGM (in person or by proxy). The AGM is scheduled for May 21 at the Whistler Conference Centre. Online voting will be available April 16 – May 13; only members who own properties in the Multi-Managed Benchlands Lodging category are eligible to vote for this director position. Those eligible members will receive a voting package (including login and password information for online voting) prior to the opening of online voting. Eligibility is determined based on current standing of the account. Election results will be announced at the AGM.
