Whistler, B.C. – Typically one of Whistler’s snowiest months, March is once again off to a strong start.

The Pineapple Express is delivering snow in Whistler’s alpine, with 40 centimetres (16 inches) falling in the last 24 hours and 73 centimetres (29 inches) in the last seven days.

So far this year, the cumulative snowfall has reached 836 centimetres (329 inches – nearly 28 feet). As the frontal system continues with a ridge of high pressure moving over the mountains, another 36-52 centimetres is in the forecast for today and tomorrow, making way for sunny skies on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Last year, 538 centimetres (212 inches, or nearly 18 feet) of snow fell in March and April alone (by the end of March, with two months remaining in the season, Whistler had surpassed its average annual snowfall of 39 feet).

As the snow falls, the Fire & Ice show heats up in Skiers’ Plaza each Sunday night at the Whistler Village base with skiers and riders making their way through a blazing ring of fire, complete with fire spinners, a DJ and fireworks display. Wednesday nights in Whistler include Family Night at Olympic Plaza with Canadian-themed outdoor activities and entertainment including snowman making contests, sled rentals, story tellers and musicians. There’s also free hot chocolate and marshmallow roasting. For a complete list of Whistler’s extensive events calendar, visit http://tourismwhistlermedia.cmail2.com/t/r-i-olliyut-l-d/
