Whistler, B.C. – With 2017 marking Canada’s 150th anniversary – it’s apropos that this year’s Cornucopia food + drink festival culinary stage series is all about local – from coast to coast.

The Culinary Stage Series kicks off November 11 with Edible Canada’s chef and president, Eric Pateman and his team presenting Canada’s 150th – A Cultural Culinary Journey. Here, Chef Pateman and his team will lead you on a multi-course journey from Canada’s coast to coast - a culinary scene defined by local, seasonal, and sustainable ingredients in the hands of many cultures. Each course will be paired with carefully selected wines and cocktails showcasing the diversity of the amazing country that is Canada.

Pacific Northwest residents often comment how fortunate they are to call the region home and The Collective Kitchen’s chef John Ferris is no different. Sunday, November 12 Chef Ferris presents West Coast Contemporary. As a Sea to Sky resident, Ferris’ farm to table philosophy and his passion for Pacific Northwest cuisine translates into a simple elegance, honouring the ingredients carefully sourced from B.C. purveyors.

Celebrating its 21st year, Cornucopia takes place November 9 – 19 with culinary and drink seminars, winemaker dinners, health and wellness seminars and legendary after-parties. Offering the opportunity to learn with the best, the Culinary Stage Series is a staple on the Cornucopia menu of events and features presentations by several outstanding chefs, mixologists and industry representatives.

On the festival’s second weekend, Miradoro Restaurant’s Executive Chef Jeff Van Geest presents Tinhorn Creek & Miradoro Restaurant on Saturday, November 18.  With Tinhorn Creek’s reputation as a sustainable winery, it should come as no surprise that Van Geest - one of British Columbia’s most celebrated chefs - focuses on locally procured foods from sustainable producer partners. Living in the Okanagan - also known as the heart of British Columbia’s agricultural country – guests can just as easily catch Van Geest at Miradoro’s kitchen door buying produce from a local forager as talking to a group of 50 as they sit down for a communal table dinner.

Did someone say beer? Whistler’s newest taphouse and eatery – Hunter Gather makes their debut at Cornucopia at 2 pm on the final Sunday with Smoke & Brew.  The team at Hunter Gather have partnered with Whistler’s Coast Mountain Brewing to pair local craft beer alongside their signature house-smoked meats. This will undoubtedly be a great afternoon to gather your friends and - as they say at Hunter Gather - celebrate life.
