Whistler, B.C. – Whistler is revving up for the much anticipated return of the World Ski and Snowboard Festival (10-19 April, 2015).
Uniting the worlds of sport, music and art, WSSF brings 10 days of non-stop adrenaline-pumping, jaw-dropping good times that have become synonymous with spring in Whistler.
The 2015 World Ski and Snowboard Festival (WSSF) celebrates its 20th anniversary in style featuring a huge lineup of ski and snowboard events, live entertainment from a variety of bands and DJs plus photography, film and art exhibitions that blend together to showcase Whistler’s unique mountain culture in an epic end of season party that wraps up winter and celebrates spring.
The music lineup for the 2015 festival includes FREE outdoor concerts, launching with the Retro Kick-Off Party featuring Skiitour, as well as performances throughout the 10 days from The Sociables Variety Act, NEPH, Swollen Members, Mat the Alien, The Railtown Prophets, Top Less Gay Love Tekno Party, Case of the Mondays, Longwalkshortdock, HUMANS, Longstride, Live in the House, SWEDISH AFTERSKI MAFIA, Fort Knox Five, Jazz Cartier, YelaWolf, Animal Nation with Lozen, MSTRKRFT plus more to be announced. The outdoor concert series rocks the Skiers Plaza daily, check whistler.com/wssf for details.
WSSF brings the entertainment indoors with the Kokanee Freeride Club Series presenting various live acts and DJs throughout Whistler’s bustling pubs and clubs. The always popular Silent Disco returns Friday, April 17 at the GLC, followed by the ultimate season-ending party; The End featuring Autoerotique, ECT!ECT! and Torro Torro set to close the 2015 festival in true Whistler style at the Whistler Conference Centre, April 18.
Don’t miss the sporting action this year from roller derby showdowns to slopestyle events and big air competitions. WSSF presents the Association of Freeskiing Professionals (AFP) World Tour Finals at the World Skiing Invitational - featuring Halfpipe, Slopestyle and Big Air (April 10-12). The Shred Show returns presenting Boardstyle, Slopestyle, and Freestyle Motocross in Skier's Plaza April 17-18.
On April 11 the derby girls return for the Silence of the Slams roller derby bout pitting Whistler’s Black Diamond Betties against the Squamish Sea to Sky Sirens inside the Whistler Conference Centre for a high intensity head-to-head battle.
Putting creativity to the forefront of WSSF is the Olympus 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown, April 15, redefining the art of film into its purest form through a few (not so) simple rules; shoot, edit and produce within a 100km radius of Whistler and in a 72 hour window. The contest exposes fortitude, ability, speed and originality to create a 3-5 minute short film produced in record time, projected in front of 1500+ festivalgoers.
Calling all men… Have you ever wondered what it’s like to walk a mile in women’s shoes? WSSF is giving you the chance to march a symbolic mile in women’s high heels to raise funds in support of the Whistler Women’s Centre. Family and friends are encouraged to join in and march alongside walkers in this fun, high-energy event, Sunday April 12.
