World Ski and Snowboard Festival brings sport, art and music to Whistler

Whistler, B.C. – Whistler’s energy is undeniable and in April, the resort takes it up a notch with the World Ski and Snowboard Festival bringing together the worlds of sport, music and art over a 10-day period that has become synonymous with spring in Whistler.
The World Ski and Snowboard Festival features a lineup of sport events, musical performances and photography, film and multimedia presentations that combine to showcase Whistler’s unique mountain culture in a traditional end of season party that wraps up winter and celebrates spring.
The musical lineup for this year’s festival includes a free outdoor concert series with confirmed artists including The Glitch Mob, De La Soul, Cut Chemist, Shapeshifter, The Original Wailers, The Planet Smashers, Pigeon Park, the Post War, Fort Knox Five, The Hairfarmers, Jenny Lea, Freeflow, The Sociables, Longstride, Lovecoast, Sneaky Sound System, Animal Nation, Year of the Wolf, Five Alarm Funk and Bombino. The outdoor concert series rocks Whistler daily from 2:30-5:30 p.m. at Skiers’ Plaza.
The entertainment continues indoors as well, with the Bud Light Freeride Club Series presenting numerous live acts and DJs at various Whistler pubs and clubs. The Bud Light Silent Disco is back on Friday, April 18 at the GLC and The End, featuring Rusko, Sleepy Tom, Mat the Alien and Skratch Bastid, wraps it all up at the Whistler Conference Centre April 19.
On the sports front, WSSF offers a bit of everything and a whole lot of energy. From roller derby to slopestyle and big air competitions, these events are each crowd-pleasers in their own right. The WSSF welcomes the Shred Show with Big Air on April 12, Slopestyle April 13 and Boarderstyle April 14; the Whistler Skiing Invitational/ AFP World Championship brings the Samsung Slopestyle and Gibbons Life Big Air competitions on April 18 and 19.
The derby girls return for the Super Brawl Sunday invitational roller derby bout (featuring Whistler’s Black Diamond Betties and the Sunshine Coast Roller Girls) inside the Whistler Conference Centre on April 20.
Events such as Fashion Exposed, Intersection, film and photography competitions, State of the Art, the Mountain Multiplicity Show, filmmaker screenings, SkullCandy State of the ART, and Best of the Fest round out the arts schedule of the festival.
