Candidates vie for Tourism Whistler board positions


   

Whistler, B.C. – Eight candidates will vie for three positions on the Tourism Whistler Board of Directors.

Tourism Whistler members will elect board representatives this year in the positions of: Multi-Managed Lodging – Benchlands, Single-Managed Lodging – Small, and Commercial.

In the category of Multi-managed Lodging – Benchlands, the candidates are incumbent Brenda Baker, of Stoney Creek Resort Properties, Sue Chappel, of Allura Direct and Mark Blasak, of Whistler Premier.

In the category of Single-Managed Lodging – Small, the candidates are incumbent Saad Hasan, of Lodging Ovations, Peter Humig of the Four Seasons Resort Whistler and Robert Simpson of the Adara Hotel.

In the Commercial category, the candidates include incumbent Duane Hepditch of Guestfolio, and Corinne Allison of Whistler Core Climbing and Fitness Centre.

Tourism Whistler is governed by a 12-member Board of Directors – five appointed and seven elected. Elected director positions include Commercial, Single-Managed Lodging – Large, Single-Managed Lodging – Small, Multi-Managed Lodging – Village, Multi-Managed Lodging – Benchlands, Multi-Managed Lodging – Other and Director-At-Large. Appointed director positions include two representatives from the Resort Municipality of Whistler, two representatives from Whistler Blackcomb and the President & CEO of Tourism Whistler.

Board nominees do not have to be members of Tourism Whistler however they must be nominated by at least two members in good standing. All elected directors serve a two-year term. The term served by the appointed directors is determined by the organizations they represent.

Voting will be available online prior to the Annual General Meeting, or at the AGM (in person or by proxy). The AGM is scheduled for May 23 at the Whistler Conference Centre. Online voting will be available April 18 – May 15; members eligible to vote will receive a voting package (including login and password information for online voting) for the category of their membership. Eligibility is determined based on current standing of the account. Election results will be announced at the AGM.
