Whistler, B.C. – Famous - or perhaps infamous  whatever the term, there is no denying it the After Parties of Cornucopia presented by North Shore Credit Union are legendary.

Staying true in theme with this year’s festival expansion to five days; the array of After Parties on the menu for 2012 is aimed to appeal to all price points, tastes and preferences.

“We’re thrilled with the new additions to the After Party offerings,” says Jess Smith, communications manager with event producer, Watermark Communications.  “We feel the new events both complement festival favourites, House Party and Araxi’s Bubbles + Oceans and bring a new level of excitement and diversity to the festival’s late night programming.”

Thursday night kicks off the festival party schedule with House Party. The theme is “Best of B.C.”  and event organizers keep it local with BBQ provided by Sidecut at Four Seasons Resort Whistler, organic potato vodka from the award-winning Pemberton Distillery, micro-brewed B.C. beer and last but not least a selection of wines from Okanagan vineyards.

Following House Party is the Best of the VINOS, presented by the Wineries of British Columbia. This “Best of” event include screenings of the top submissions from the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Vinos Wine Film Festival that takes place every spring in Osoyoos, B.C.. The audience will vote for a “People’s Choice award” winner, before ending the night with the wrap party and yet more B.C. wines to sample.

For many revelers, Crush Gala Grand Tasting is merely the springboard for nightlong gastronomic pursuits.  This year, the Cornucopia party circuit debuts three new late-night celebrations and the return of annual favourite.

Eau de Vie - A Spirited Affair makes its debut to Cornucopia on Friday night. 5280 Bar at the Four Seasons will be transformed into a “chic sanctuary of innovative cocktail culture”. Patron Tequila, Remy Martin Cognac complemented by DJ music with an  international flair set the tone for this ‘Water of Life’ late night affair.

Also making its first appearance to the night parties - The Fairmont Chateau Whistler is rolling out the red-carpet Vegas style at the new High Rollers after party.  Cocktails and canapés; live music and dancing girls; charity gaming tables and Lady Luck; all the ingredients required for a casino-cool, cosmopolitan affair that Cornucopia has become known for.

The Longhorn Saloon is adding a little rock ‘n roll to the Cornucopia banner on Saturday night with Rock of Ages featuring Wines that Rock. Rolling Stones’ Forty Licks Merlot, Woodstock Chardonnay and The Police’s Synchronicity are just a few of the ultimate in rockstar wines set to make an appearance at the Saloon’s annual costume party – it’s the chance to party like a rockstar.

One of Whistler’s top rated restaurants steps up on Saturday night with the always anticipated, late night soiree Bubbles + Oceans. Celebrate Cornucopia Araxi style – bubbles from some of the top Champagne and sparkling wine houses; an extraordinary selection of hand-crafted culinary creations, fine seafood, freshly shucked oysters and more from award-winning executive chef James Walt and his team.

Faces of Cornucopia

Tyler Schramm, Master Distiller,  Pemberton Distillery

Following his dream to produce a local and organic spirit, Tyler Schramm studied a Master’s of Science in Brewing & Distilling at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, a world leader in Brewing and Distilling Sciences. Tyler completed his Master’s thesis in potato vodka distilling, with the goal to prove that vodka - considered by many of his university colleagues and professors to be an indistinct and tasteless spirit - could be just as rich and complex as a single malt scotch. Here Tyler created the original recipe for Schramm Vodka.

Schramm returned to the Pemberton Valley and the Pemberton Distillery was born.  Early in 2009, Tyler conducted a series of trial distillations to perfect his recipe and in July he carefully hand-distilled the first crop of locally-grown organic potatoes and the Schramm family hand-bottled the first run of Schramm Vodka, taking pride in its clarity, smooth mouth-feel and rich character. http://www.pembertondistillery.ca/
