Tourism Whistler members elect new board director

Whistler, B.C. – Steve Seatle, of ResortQuest Whistler, has been elected to the Tourism Whistler Board of Directors.

Seatle and incumbent Sue Chappel were the two candidates vying for the Multi-Managed Lodging Benchlands position on the board.

The election results were announced at the Annual General Meeting and Election of Directors, held April 27 at the Whistler Conference Centre.

“I would like to thank the candidates for putting their names forward to serve on the Tourism Whistler Board of Directors,” said Tourism Whistler Board Chair, Norman Mastalir. “Congratulations to Steve Seatle, on his successful election. The entire board looks forward to welcoming Steve to his new role on the board.”

Chappel was first elected to the board in 2013 and served two consecutive two-year terms. “On behalf of the entire board, I would like to thank Sue for her many valuable contributions to the board,” said Mastalir. “One of the great things about the Tourism Whistler Board of Directors is the diversity and range of business backgrounds that are represented,” he said.

In 2017, the board positions of Single-managed Small Lodging Director, Commercial Director and Multi-Managed Benchlands Lodging Director were all up for election.

The categories of Single-managed Small Lodging and Commercial went unchallenged and, therefore, were both filled by incumbents. In the Single-managed Small Lodging category, Director, Saad Hasan (incumbent) was elected by acclamation.

In the Commercial category, Roger Soane (incumbent) was elected by acclamation.

Tourism Whistler is governed by a 12-member Board of Directors – five appointed and seven elected.

Elected director positions include Commercial, Single-managed Large Lodging, Single-Managed Small Lodging, Multi-Managed Village Lodging, Multi-Managed Benchlands Lodging, Multi-Managed Other Lodging and Director-At-Large. Appointed director positions include two representatives from the Resort Municipality of Whistler, two representatives from Whistler Blackcomb and the President & CEO of Tourism Whistler.

Tourism Whistler Board nominees do not have to be members of Tourism Whistler; however they must be nominated by at least two members in good standing. All elected directors serve a two-year term. The term served by the appointed directors is determined by the organizations they represent.
